Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to tools and data. An MCP server describes what it can do; the assistant decides when to call it. Configo's server exposes configurator-building tools — the assistant uses them the same way it uses a calculator or a web search.

What is Configo's MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use external tools. Configo's MCP server exposes your projects, materials, configurators, orders and reports to the assistant you already use — any MCP-compatible client. It works as you, with exactly your permissions, only after you approve it on a consent screen.

What the assistant can do

Build from a document

A price list, a spec, an Excel file or a plain description of the product — the assistant turns it into materials, controls, calculations and parts in the right format.

Test before you trust it

Runs calculations for the sizes and options you name and shows the price and bill of materials, so a wrong formula is caught before the first order.

Iterate in plain language

"Add a markup for the premium fabric", "round prices to tens", "the hinge count should depend on height" — the configurator gets edited and the numbers re-checked.

Keep the catalog current

Reuses materials you already have, creates only what's missing, updates prices from a new price list and warns when a unit or a price tier looks off.

Check against real orders

Takes finished orders, re-prices every line from the values saved on it and shows where the configurator disagrees with what the customer was charged. Orders are only read, never changed.

Read the reports

Revenue, loss reasons, funnel, forecast, team productivity — the assistant pulls the report you need and explains the numbers in plain words.

Connect in three steps

Add the server

In your assistant's connectors, add https://mcp.configo.org/mcp. The assistant finds it as a remote MCP server and registers itself.

Log in and allow

Configo shows the usual login and consent screen. You grant access to projects, materials, configurators, products, orders and reports — and nothing else.

Ask for what you need

"Build a configurator for Plisse mosquito screens from this price list" is enough to start. The assistant reads the schema reference itself.

How a working day with the assistant looks

I see two projects: "Windows & Doors" and "Blinds". The first has 4 configurators, the second 2. I can build a new configurator from a price list or a description, test the existing ones on sample orders, refresh material prices and explain where a price comes from. Where do we start?

Finding the bug

A zero price on one specific size is the classic configurator bug. The assistant runs the calculation around the suspicious value, reads the conditions and fixes the boundary — then re-checks the others so the fix doesn't break anything else.

In "Horizontal blinds" a width of 2400 gives a price of 0. Why?

I ran 2399, 2400 and 2401 — only 2400 returns zero. "Reinforced rail" has the condition "width greater than 2400" and "Standard rail" has "less than 2400", so exactly 2400 matches neither. I changed the standard one to "up to 2400 inclusive": 2400 → 1,860 now. I also checked the other boundaries, 600 and 3000 are fine.

Refreshing prices

A new supplier price list used to mean an evening of copy-paste. Now it's one message — the assistant matches rows by SKU, updates what it found and tells you exactly what it couldn't match instead of guessing.

Here is the new supplier price list. Update the purchase prices for fabrics.

Matched 37 of 40 rows by SKU and updated their purchase prices; sale prices untouched. Three rows have no match in the catalog: BL-118, BL-121 and SCR-07 — new fabrics or renamed ones? I can create them as new materials in the "Fabric" group, just say so.

Understanding the price

Ask what the price is made of and what would make it lower. The assistant breaks the calculation down by item, proposes a change from your own catalog and shows the result before touching anything.

What makes up the price of a 1600×2000 wardrobe, and how do I get it 10% cheaper?

Total 18,400: 16 mm chipboard — 7,920 (43%), hardware and runners — 4,100, MDF fronts — 4,600, labour — 1,780. Board is the biggest item. Replacing Egger chipboard with the Kronospan you already have in the catalog gives 16,470, that's −10.5%; the bill of materials and the other sizes don't change. Apply it?

Checking against real orders

Re-price what was really sold. The assistant takes the last orders, runs each line's saved values through the configurator and tells you where the result differs from the amount charged.

I took the five latest orders and re-priced every line from the sizes and materials saved on it. Four match to the cent. In order 26237 the line "Besta 35, 1800×2200" was charged 4 120 and the configurator now gives 4 380 — the "Tube 35" material has gone up 6% since. The formula is fine, the gap is a price change. I only read orders, so nothing was changed.

Why customers walk away

Cancellations are up, and you want to know whether pricing is to blame. The assistant reads the loss-reason and revenue reports and says what the data supports — and what it doesn't.

Cancellations went up in Q3. Why, and could the configurator be at fault?

Loss-reason report, July–September: 31 canceled orders worth 412 000, 19 of them (61%) "Too expensive". The average order grew from 8 200 to 9 650 in August, and the "Wardrobes" materials were updated on 12 August. That fits the timing but doesn't prove the cause. I can re-price three typical wardrobes before and after to show which sizes got dearer — want that?

Presets from real orders

Customers pick the same few sizes again and again. The assistant finds them in the finished products and turns them into presets, then checks that each one calculates cleanly.

Across 64 saved products the most common are 600×1400 (14), 800×2100 (11) and 1000×2200 (9). I added three presets — "Standard window", "Door" and "Wide window" — and left every other field as it was. All three calculate without warnings.

An order from the chat

Price it, agree the number, place the order — in one conversation. Configo calculates the price from the configurator, so the assistant can't make one up, and it says what it left for you to finish.

Narrow permissions

The connection gets six scopes — projects, materials, configurators, products, orders and reports. Orders can be read and created, products and reports only read. Contacts, billing, team and files stay out of reach.

Revoke in one click

The connection appears under Settings → Security like any other app. Revoke it there and it stops working immediately.

What is MCP?

Which assistants are supported?

Any MCP-compatible client with remote server support: Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code), Cursor, and others. Most of them connect with Register automatically — no keys to copy. Clients that ask for a client ID can use a public OAuth application you create in Configo, see the docs.

What does the AI provider see?

Only what the assistant requests through the tools during your conversation: the projects, materials and configurators you're working on and the calculation results — and, if you ask it to look at them, orders and reports, including amounts, customer names on orders and, in reports, purchase prices and profit. Configo never sends your data to any AI provider on its own — the connection is initiated and controlled by you from your assistant.

Can it break my configurators?

It edits exactly what you ask for, and every change goes through the same validation as the editor. Ask it to test the numbers before you rely on them — that's what the calculation tool is for. Configurators keep working for orders and the widget while you iterate.

Does it cost extra?

No. The MCP server is part of Configo on every plan. The assistant itself is your own subscription with its provider.

Can the assistant change my orders?

It can create a new order when you ask — a real one, priced by Configo from the configurator, with your new-order automations running as usual — but it cannot edit, move or delete an existing order. Products and reports are read-only. It has no access to your contacts, so a new order has no customer attached until you add one.
